I Quit Cloth Diapering

When I went to visit my in-laws this summer, I knew cloth diapers would not be an option.  I was afraid of using the disposable diapers as they had caused diaper rash in the past.  But for 3 days I figured it would be acceptable.

The visit went by without a hitch – no rashes!  When we got home, I started using cloth diapers again but would mix in the disposables for “emergencies”.  But cloth diapers remained the standard.  And then Lucy started pre-school.

Once the day school program started (twice a week) disposables became a necessity.  No day school is going to bother with the cloth mess.  “Emergencies” became more frequent.  Without thinking about it, I just found myself using disposables more and more often.

It has been about four months now since I have used a cloth diaper.  I didn’t mean for this to happen and feel a bit of guilt about it.  But lack of sleep and lifestyle choices seemed to move about and here I am using disposables.  And its actually quite convenient.  I love the Pampers Cruisers.  And my daughter loves seeing the Sesame Street characters.

Baby Loves Sand

I just got back from a much needed vacation to the beach.  Lesson #1 – Lucy loves sand!

When we arrived at the ocean, she looked out at the water with a stunned look on her face.  And when a sea gull flew by, her head whipped around and she made the sign for bird.  She wanted down and, once on the sand, she immediately picked up a handful of sand and dropped it a few times.  And then she popped some in her mouth.  Silly me.  I thought she would have been disgusted.  But then she did it again!  Another mom was close by and asked, “First trip to the beach?  Take it from me – babies love sand and will eat it right up!”

She was right.

Diaper Rodeo – Poop and Run

Posted in messy messes tagged , at 3:52 pm by babygroove

I almost lost my wee mind yesterday. Lucy was so wound up and full of energy when I tried to change her morning diaper that I really couldn’t keep her still. She spun and flipped and, just as I got her diaper loose, she sped off, poop going everywhere. I felt like a rodeo cowgirl.

Luckily, I change her over an old swaddle blanket so I mostly averted that disaster. But by the time I was able to clean one mess, she made it to the other side of the room where she promptly peed on the carpet. And she continued to be grumpy all morning and most of the day.

But after getting her out of the house and making a trip to the ice cream store (for momma!) she settled down and slept though the night. When I changed her this morning, she was as calm and content as I have ever seen her.
